We are seeking volunteers to provide support for our daily operations as well as big events, including the Azalea Festival, Victorian Mourning Tour, and annual Candlelight Tour. We offer a variety of volunteer roles that can suit your experience and interests. Just a few are listed below:
- Tour docent/museum guide
- Event organizers/assistants
- Outreach and education leads
- Administrative support
We are open from 10 AM-3 PM on Tuesdays through Saturdays and will be glad to work with your schedule. From one afternoon to every day, we'll be glad to have you!

Mission Statement
The Lower Cape Fear Historical Society, Inc. (LCFHS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to the preservation and promotion of the history of the Lower Cape Fear region since 1956. The Society concentrates on preserving records and disseminating knowledge of local history.
Description
The iconic Latimer House has been a fixture of the historic district and the cornerstone of LCFHS's commitment to preserving history for over six decades. Today, the mansion stands as a living testament to our shared past, hosting countless memories and stories. Within the walls of Latimer, LCFHS leads educational tours and special events, preserves a comprehensive collection of over 600 artifacts, and shares an extensive archive and library with the community. LCFHS is proud to be the oldest historic preservation organization in the lower Cape Fear region.

- All volunteers should be able to walk up and down a flight of stairs of this historic home. Volunteers should also be willing to learn new skills, such as using Square for gift shop checkouts and specific archival rules for handling artifacts.
