Are you ready to put your photography skills to good use and make a real difference? Black Dawg Farm and Sanctuary needs YOU - our next Volunteer Photographer to help us capture the love, magic, and transformation happening every day on our farm. If you’ve got an eye for detail, a heart for animals, and a camera in hand, this is your chance to tell the stories of our incredible rescued animals and dedicated volunteers through the power of photography.

  • Be the Storyteller: Your photos will shine a spotlight on the lives of the animals who have found safety and love at our sanctuary.
  • Creative Freedom: Bring your artistic vision to life as you photograph everything from adorable farm animals to heartwarming rescue stories.
  • Make a Difference: Your photos will inspire support, promote our mission, and help us build a larger community of animal lovers and advocates.
  • Work with Animals: Where else can you get paid in "goat hugs" and "puppy eyes" while making a lasting impact?

As our Volunteer Photographer, you’ll be on the front lines, using your camera to showcase the beautiful work happening here at Black Dawg. From capturing the raw emotion of a rescue to snapping shots of our animals living their best lives, your role will be essential to sharing our story and spreading our message. Whether you’re documenting the transformation of a rescued pig or catching a candid moment at one of our events, your photos will tell the world just how much we care about the animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Animal Photography: Capture the personalities of our animals, from our quirky goats to our wise donkeys, in their natural habitat.
  • Event Photography: Snap pictures of our community events, from educational tours to fundraising galas - and maybe catch a chicken photobombing along the way.
  • Before-and-After Stories: Document the transformation of our rescues as they move from difficult pasts to bright futures.
  • Visual Storytelling: Help us create compelling visual stories that connect with our audience on social media, our website, and beyond.
  • Creative Projects: Work with our team to develop photo campaigns and projects that support our educational and fundraising goals.
Who You Are:
  • You’re a photography enthusiast with a strong portfolio showcasing your skills (bonus points if it includes animals in adorable poses).
  • You’ve got a keen eye for detail and love capturing those special, fleeting moments.
  • You’re passionate about animal welfare and excited to use your creativity to make a difference.
  • You’re comfortable working independently, but you know how to collaborate and work as part of a team.
  • Previous experience in animal or outdoor photography? We’d love that - but it’s not required!
What’s in It for You?
  • Creative Freedom: Unleash your creativity while helping a cause you care about.
  • Portfolio Building: Add meaningful, impactful work to your portfolio with photos that will make everyone say, "Wow!"
  • Make a Difference: Every photo you take will help us raise awareness, build support, and inspire action for the animals who need it most.
  • Join a Team of Passionate Volunteers: Work with a dedicated group of animal lovers who share your commitment to animal welfare and advocacy.

Ready to Help Us Capture the Magic?
We can’t wait to see the world through your lens! Your photos will help bring awareness to our mission and bring joy to anyone who sees them. So grab your camera, and let’s make some animal magic happen!

Be the photographer who shows the world just how extraordinary farm animals can be. Together, we’ll create something beautiful!

Description

Black Dawg Farm and Sanctuary started in 2014 with two horses from the kill pen, it has since grown and evolved from there. We are located in Rainier, Washington on 10 beautiful acres of farmland nestled in Thurston County. We are a farm animal sanctuary that provides a lifelong home to the animals in residence.

We do not adopt out any animals.

Many of the animals are not considered adoptable due to age, nature of injuries, psychological and emotional trauma. This is their last chance for a home, where they are loved, cared for and are allowed to be happy individuals.

We receive the animals through other animal rescue agencies, the sheriff's department, abandonment and owners that are no longer able to care for their animals.

We are making a difference in the community through education and awareness. Our Vision and mission guide us in everything we do and how we will continue to proceed in the future.

Besides being a farm animal sanctuary, we are an educational learning center- teaching the public about the social and ethical responsibility of animal ownership. We do this thru educational tours, hands-on-learning, and by hosting professionals who are experts in their field- come and speak. We believe that the human-animal bond is crucial to to mental health and well-being. These animals that were once unwanted are able to teach us about love, empathy and so much more.
