ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Working closely with the rangers at African Burial Ground National Monument, volunteers will assist in giving tours, museum services, and bookstore sales at the monument. Volunteers will be relied upon as stewards of the stories and memories of the site and will need to feel confident in engaging with difficult topics. Work will be public-facing and mostly indoors, with the occasional opportunity to work outdoors as a part of regular operations or events. Training materials and time on or off-site will be provided to the volunteer to promote site knowledge before public interactions. A uniform will be provided and will be required during working hours. This site requires a minimum of 4 service hours biweekly, but a schedule can be agreed upon with site volunteer coordinator. Volunteer will need to coordinate their own transportation to and from the site.
