Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD) drives proven programs and innovations to eradicate the symptoms and underlying causes of poverty and ultimately poverty itself.
As a Mobile Food Pop Up Giver- East Boston Volunteer, you will assist BCD with food distribution and ensure that clients are receiving their food safely and fairly.
This is an in-person role, averaging 4 hours per shift, once a month. Tables are set up for assemble line distribution. Volunteers will distribute a set number of food items to clients and bagging them for the clients.
Duties/Responsibilities:
-Monitor food to ensure that it is being handled safely.
-Work with the team
-Communicate with team
-Ability to work quickly and efficiently
-Follow directions from ABCD staff and be flexible with duties as needed
-Assist with shutting down Mobile Food Pop Ups
-Cleaning tables & trash
-Breaking down boxes
Skills and Qualifications:
-Restaurant and food handling experience is a plus but not required
-Ability to verbally deescalate a conversation if needed
-Ability to stand and walk for long durations. Seats are available if needed.

HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
