ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Have you ever wanted to live and work in a beautiful desert environment, surrounded by history and expansive views? Does visiting national park sites and immersing yourself in all the intricate recreational opportunities these places have sound exciting to you? Do you love sharing your passion for parks, the outdoors, and history with others? Then this volunteer opportunity might be perfect for you!

Chaco Culture NHP is not only a place steeped in history, but is also recognized as both a UNESCO World Heritage Site and International Dark Sky Park. We are looking for volunteers to assist with visitor center operations, rove trails, and potentially develop and give interpretive programs to the public. These job duties could range from staffing the visitor center desk, selling (and explaining) various park passes, and answering visitor questions daily. If interested, you will be able to give formal interpretive programs, which could be guided walks or talks at the visitor center. You will be given training in interpretive techniques (informal and formal if interested) as well as an introduction to the park upon arrival. You will also be expected to undergo a background investigation to receive network access to our computers, the ability to work the front desk unsupervised, and the ability to collect fees.

The time commitments can vary depending on volunteer availability and interest, but in general can range from 6-10 weeks. We are accepting applications from couples as well as individuals.

Furnished housing is available. Depending on the time of the year, there may also be an RV spot available for volunteers as well. Volunteers will be expected to work 32 hours a week. Housing will be covered by the park.

Please include your preferred timeframe and availability when you apply. If applying with your partner, each individual will need to complete an application, but please indicate if you are applying with someone in your application too.
