ORGANIZATION: Arlington Heights Memorial Library

  • 2 people are interested

The Arlington Heights Memoria Library provides customers with access to self-service copy machines and Simple Scan Stations for sending faxes and scanning documents. These stations are located near the Tech Learning Center Desk and public computer lab. The Digital Services Department has noticed an increased volume of customers needing assistance with copying, faxing and scanning. They developed the Tech Learning Center (TLC) Desk Support volunteer position to allow staff to focus on assisting customers with other technology needs while ensuring that customers still receive help with copies, faxes and scanning. The shift we are currently filling is Sundays from noon-3 p.m.

What are the role responsibilities?
In this role, the volunteer is responsible for:

  • Providing support and oversight of the self-service copier/fax/scanner area.
  • Assisting customers with making copies, as well as using the fax machine and scanner. Training will be provided.
  • Directing customers to staff for questions not related to the copier/fax/scanner.

What qualities are we looking for in a TLC Desk Support volunteer?
An individual who:
  • Has excellent customer service skills and patience when working with customers with varying ability levels.
  • Is comfortable with technology and performing basic troubleshooting.
  • Has the ability to follow guidelines and instructions.

What is the time commitment?
  • Shifts will be during high-volume times as determined by the Digital Services Department. The shift we are currently filling is Sundays from noon-3 p.m.
  • Our goal is to have a small group of volunteers for this role and create a rotating schedule. We anticipate a minimum of 1 shift per month per volunteer though this may change depending on the number of volunteers we get.
  • Due to the public service nature of this position, reliable attendance for scheduled shifts is required.
