Food Hub Pop-Up - 4/24

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Food Finders, Inc

I wanted to share with you a new volunteer opportunity that we are in need of volunteers for. Every Wednesday at Admiral Kidd Park, we will be having a Food Hub Pop-Up ! The Food Hub Pop-Up is essentially a food distribution ; our refrigerated Food Hub allows us to store fresh food so that we can serve nonprofits/individuals who may have limited access to it. The fresh food they receive will allow them to better serve individuals experiencing food insecurity in their communities. Our network of nonprofits covers LA, Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties so your impact will reach a diverse population of individuals and ensure that they will have food to enjoy!

Here are the details of the Food Hub Pop-Up:

    • When: Every Wednesday
    • Time: 9:30-12:30
    • Location: Admiral Kidd Park - 2125 Santa Fe Ave, Long Beach, CA 90810
  • Volunteers must have the ability to:
    • Lift/carry at least 25 lbs of weight
    • Ability to be outside/in the Sun for a period of time
    • Possibly be around animals as volunteers will be working at a community park
    • Be physically active as volunteers will be loading boxes into vehicles

We aim to have the Food Hub Pop-Up every Wednesday ; however, it is contingent upon securing 4-6 volunteers for each shift so we greatly appreciate it if you could sign up and support our mission.

Thank you for your support of Food Finders. Together, we can work towards a future where no one has to go hungry.

About Food Finders, Inc

Location:

Mission Statement

To eliminate food waste while improving nutrition in food insecure communities.

Description

Our Food Rescue Program began in 1989 in response to the disparity between the amount of wholesome food going to waste and the amount of people facing food insecurity. Food Finders initially rescued a few thousand pounds of food per year with only the Founder and several volunteers running the program. Today, we have 17 full-time staff and 6 interns, and we have an army of more than 300 volunteers. We serve more than 400 recipient agency partners and engage more than 700 food donors. Our focus is on perishable and prepared food. This food is immediately delivered to our partner agencies, not warehoused, providing an average of 30,000-40,000 meals a day, 365 days a year. So far in 2023, we have rescued over 13.7 million pounds of food, and we have the possibility to reach a Food Finders all-time high of 16 million pounds of food by the end of the year.

In September, our Food 4 Kids program will start again with the Long Beach Unified School District. We will provide 1,844 meals per month to over 40 schools to ensure that students + their families who are struggling with food insecurity have meals to eat on the weekends.
