join us at AANHPI 2024! Help us celebrate our Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander community! At the same time we'll educate and share the benefits of composting with our community, as well as how attendees can divert their food waste, and the green job training and education KC Can is able to offer to underserved individuals through our Green Core Training program.
Volunteer to staff the KC Can Compost booth, or monitor a compost station and direct attendees on what can/can't be composted.
Volunteers will be provided clear guidelines on what can/can't be composted and will receive on-site training the day of the event.
In the United States nearly half of all food produced is wasted. It makes up 25% of what ends up in the landfill and has a huge impact on our climate through the methane that's released when that waste decays.
Collecting and composting food waste is an amazing opportunity for us to not only prevent those negative impacts, but also create an amazing resource that can nourish our gardens and our soil: compost!

Mission Statement
KC Can is an innovative social and environmental enterprise that provides KC businesses, organizations, and residents an easy and affordable way to manage its food waste. We are unique in that we are also providing internship and employment opportunities to people who are recovering from homelessness and addiction.
Description
KC Can was developed in tandem with Shelter KC, a local non-profit that provides relief and recovery services to our city's poor. The aim was to create a service that Kansas City needed and to provide dignified, living-wage employment to those in recovery. We received the Aaron L. Levitt Changemaker Award for our business model and have had an outpouring of support from local donors and foundations. Our service launched in May of 2019 and is taking off rapidly. The goal of the venture is twofold: to empower people and preserve the planet.
