Mission Statement
KC Can is an innovative social and environmental enterprise that provides KC businesses, organizations, and residents an easy and affordable way to manage its food waste. We are unique in that we are also providing internship and employment opportunities to people who are recovering from homelessness and addiction.
Description
KC Can was developed in tandem with Shelter KC, a local non-profit that provides relief and recovery services to our city's poor. The aim was to create a service that Kansas City needed and to provide dignified, living-wage employment to those in recovery. We received the Aaron L. Levitt Changemaker Award for our business model and have had an outpouring of support from local donors and foundations. Our service launched in May of 2019 and is taking off rapidly. The goal of the venture is twofold: to empower people and preserve the planet.
