STEM Canada is a registered not-for-profit global program that specializes in an advanced, bar-none STEM-based educational curriculum that emphasizes the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The STEM program is open to all students from preschool to high school with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application, designed to teach students in the STEM fields, yielding globally competitive results.


Job Description:

As the Volunteer PR Manager, you will be responsible for developing and executing strategic communication plans to promote STEM Canada's mission, programs, and initiatives. You will work closely with the marketing team to enhance our organization's visibility, reputation, and engagement with key stakeholders, including the media, donors, partners, and the community.


Key Responsibilities:

· Strategic Communication: Develop and implement comprehensive PR strategies to raise awareness of STEM Canada's mission, programs, and impact among target audiences.
· Media Relations: Cultivate relationships with journalists, bloggers, and media outlets to secure coverage of STEM Canada's activities, events, and achievements.
· Press Releases and Media Kits: Write and distribute press releases, media advisories, and media kits to announce news, events, and milestones, ensuring consistent messaging and branding.
· Storytelling: Identify compelling stories and case studies that illustrate the impact of STEM education on students, educators, and communities, and pitch them to the media for coverage.
· Content Creation: Produce engaging content for press releases, blog posts, articles, social media posts, and other communication channels to highlight STEM Canada's initiatives and success stories.
· Social Media Management: Manage STEM Canada's social media accounts, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram, to amplify our message, engage with followers, and drive traffic to our website.
· Event Support: Provide PR support for STEM Canada's events, including media outreach, onsite media coordination, and post-event coverage.
· Crisis Communication: Develop and implement crisis communication plans and protocols to effectively manage and mitigate reputational risks and issues.
· Partnership Promotion: Collaborate with partners, sponsors, and stakeholders to leverage their networks and platforms for PR opportunities and cross-promotion.
· Performance Tracking: Monitor and analyze PR metrics, including media coverage, website traffic, and social media engagement, to assess the effectiveness of PR efforts and inform future strategies.
· Internal Communication: Ensure alignment and consistency of messaging across internal teams and stakeholders, providing guidance and support as needed.


Requirements:

· Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field is preferred.
· Previous experience in PR, media relations, or communications, preferably in the non-profit sector or education industry preferred but not mandatory.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives and pitches for diverse audiences.
· Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with media contacts, partners, and stakeholders.
· Creativity and innovation in developing PR strategies and campaigns to promote STEM education initiatives.
· Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including social media management tools, analytics software, and content management systems.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and priorities effectively.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our biggest and most important STEM Innovation Summer Program to date, running across 4 provinces!

We need eager volunteers to help us plan, and execute this program. Whether you are a new volunteer or a past volunteer, we are reaching out to you to see if you have any time to lend. We need your help!

The volunteer requirement for this program is a commitment of at least 2-4 hours per week beginning from April 2 - 15 and will last until June 30, 2024. We have a lot of exciting opportunities including team leadership, management, supervisory, and VP positions available for this project.

With all hands and hearts on deck, we have the opportunity to make an even greater impact on our community than ever before.

This STEM Innovation Program is not just about tasks- it's about commitment, dedication, and delivering results that will change lives. Together, we have the power to create positive change and leave a lasting legacy in our community.

*Please note, that you must be available for the next 3 months if you commit to a position listed above. All volunteers on board for this project must be available to attend weekly team meetings on any ONE of the following days:
- Thursday evenings 8 pm Eastern - 40 - 60 minutes, OR
- Sunday evenings 8 pm Eastern - 40 - 60 minutes, OR
- Wednesday noon 12 pm Eastern - 40 - 60 minutes
