STEM Montessori Academy of Canada (SMAC) is a regional STEM program open to all students with the mission to deliver top-notch STEM literacy and application. The STEM program will educate students from preschool to high school. SMAC will specialize in an advanced, bar-none STEM-based educational curriculum that emphasizes the interconnected subject areas of science, technology, engineering, and math.

STEM is currently recruiting an Event Director, to work alongside our Project Manager for our STEM Innovation events. Join us in a volunteer role. In collaboration with the Board of Directors, the ideal candidate will execute and maintain our values and organizational goals while managing continual efficient operations.

To apply for this role, you must reside in Canada, and be available for an in person visit to the event in July or August.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the event planning process and execution of the strategic vision and initiatives striving for operational excellence, including identifying and targeting areas to improve the operation.
  • Continual communication with Executive Director relating to the program progress, initiates fiscal responsibility and information flow.
  • Oversee and improve the efficiency of support services, including volunteers, teachers, HR, IT, and finance.
  • Monitoring of day-to-day operations of the event planning to ensure coordination and communication between all functions.
  • Lead and manage event teams in focused initiatives providing support and guidance within organizational goals and values.
  • Lead event meetings and take ownership of the event critical path.
  • Community to event stakeholders and maintain on time delivery of event tasks.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, events, or related field
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft applications.
  • Experience operations management, and organizational effectiveness, implementing best practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership and collaboration under critical time constraints and ability to prioritize and delegate tasks.
  • Ability to motivate and display a strong work ethic and team initiatives in a diverse and ethical workplace.
  • Committed to continued learning in a stimulating environment.

Knowledge working with a non-profit organization is considered an asset.

*Please note, that you must be available for the next 3 months if you commit to a position listed above. All volunteers on board for this project must be available to attend weekly team meetings on any ONE of the following days:

- Thursday evenings 8 pm Eastern - 40 - 60 minutes, OR
- Sunday evenings 8 pm Eastern - 40 - 60 minutes, OR
- Wednesday noon Eastern - 40 - 60 minutes
