ORGANIZATION: Village in the Ville

We are looking for passionate and driven volunteers who want to make a difference in the fight

against Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Alzheimer's caregivers are often referred to as

the hidden, or second, victims of the disease. They are spouses, children, siblings, and friends. As a

respite volunteer, you can help these caregivers get a much-needed break.

The Village in the Ville Mobile Memory Café is a respite program designed for the caregivers of loved

ones with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. The volunteer will spend

1-3 hours with the individual with dementia while the caregiver gets a chance to take care of

himself or herself while staying in the home or nearby.

Volunteers will be trained and supervised by the Associate Director of Village in the Ville. They are

not trained medically. They can provide support and companionship to the individual with

dementia. They can do activities such as singing and dancing, creating crafts, playing games, doing

puzzles, going for walks, and much more. After building a relationship with these individuals, many

look forward to visits with their new friend.

To become a respite volunteer, all you need is:

· A Valid Driver's License

· To Be at Least 18 Years Old

Once you've become a respite volunteer, you'll have access to our volunteer portal, where you can

sign up to volunteer in the Clintonville, Beechwold, and University District areas. Because you will

be driving to and from the individuals home, for every mile you drive, we'll reimburse you $0.67.

Incidentally, if anything were to happen on your drive, you'd be protected under our insurance plan.

If you have any questions, please contact Timna Haines at Timna.haines@clintonvillecrc.org or at 614-404-1521.

About Village in the Ville

Location:

3222 North High Street, Columbus, OH 43202, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to cultivate a community rooted in connectedness that celebrates diversity and promotes reciprocal volunteer assistance among older adults.

Description

Although we are a program of the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resource Center, we are a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Our story;

A small group of friends noticed the need to support aging folks in Clintonville. They founded Village in the Ville in 2015 after learning about Villages, which are communities that help older folks overcome the challenges of aging.

Our organization has grown to about 100 members and 70 active volunteers. We have helped dozens of our members stay in their homes, rather than moving into nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

We provide services for our members that become harder with age. Our opportunities include, but are not limited to, helping members with; yard care, grocery shopping, transportation to their doctors' appointments, home repair, meal preparation, technology assistance, and snow removal during the winter.

Weekly, we hold events for Village members. Recently, events have included visiting parks, museums, restaurants, pumpkin patches, and shops (in masks, with social distancing). Also, we frequently offer virtual yoga, tai chi, computer proficiency, and art classes, along with regular virtual book club meetings and coffee hours. Frequently, we invite experts to speak to members about various topics, like social justice and health.
