The Reach & Rise Mentoring Program is a national 1 on 1 therapeutic mentoring program. We are looking for compassionate mentors to match with youth mentees (ages from 6-17) for one year. Mentors and mentees meet once a week for 1-3 hours. Some activities include going to the playground/ museum/ park/ movies, getting food, doing arts and crafts, and sports. The program was designed to provide a safe and inclusive place for all program participants, regardless of ability, age, cultural background, ethnicity, faith, gender, gender identity, ideology, income, national origin, race or sexual orientation to feel supported with dignity and respect. Through 1 on 1 mentoring, youth are able to process their thoughts and feelings, normalize their experiences, challenges, and developmental milestones, and reduce isolation. The program utilizes a therapeutic model, it is not psychotherapy or counseling and mentors will only fulfill roles as volunteers, even if they work professionally as a trained counselors or mental health professionals. Mentors will provide social, emotional, and behavioral support to mentees and help them increase understanding, awareness, skill building, and making positive behavioral changes. Mentors build rapport with mentees by supporting their emotional and mental wellbeing, teaching them stress management techniques, and creating first-time experience to foster positive behavior and self confidence.
