Applicants are now being accepted for volunteers to help support as assistant dance instructors during our dance classes. Feel the Beat offers daytime, evening and after-school inclusive and accessible dance classes for all ages, abilities and skill levels. Feel the Beat serves individuals of all age ranges as well as those with and without disabilities in both public and private class settings. We are looking for a responsible and dedicated individual, who can help assist our dance instructors during class, providing a safe and encouraging space for all students and help to enhance each student's dancing skills.

We have 2 types of classes that we are looking for volunteers for:

Private group classes: Group classes are perfect for organizations that focus on respite care, community engagement, and physical therapy for the disabled population.

Weekly classes: These classes meet once per week and focus on the skills, technique, and choreography for different styles of dance. ASL is preferred for these classes, other languages are a plus!

The Company: Feel the Beat is a 501c3 non-profit dance organization based in Denver, CO, creating equally accessible music and dance experiences for all types of students. Our learners include those who are Hearing, Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and with and without Disabilities. We’ve developed a curriculum that incorporates a vibrotactile dance floor and instruction tools to aid in the experience of dance.

Expectations:

  • Enthusiasm and dedication to children, teens, and adults from diverse backgrounds.
  • Effective classroom management skills and communication skills.
  • Ability to assist dance instructor by teaching and encouraging a range of student levels and abilities/disabilities.
  • Assist in the demonstration and teaching of a variety of dance methods, techniques, and skills.
  • Assist instructor in teaching and altering instruction to meet students’ needs and preferences.
  • Ability to meet varying student needs (e.g., teaching mixed abilities in the same space).
  • Must possess excellent patience and communication skills.
  • Maintain the safety of the class participants.
  • Assist in developing student technical and performance skills throughout the program term.
  • Observe students to determine the kind of training and development needed.
  • Assist in evaluating student progress after each class.
  • Assist in preparing choreographed dances as needed.
  • Uphold a high quality of professionalism as a representative of Feel the Beat.
  • Promote, value, and protect the mission of Feel the Beat.
  • Regularly attend your chosen and agreed-upon days and times.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to volunteer during the day and evenings on weekdays is a must, Saturday is a plus.
  • Previous experience with teaching children (including preschoolers) as well as adults.
  • Former dance education and/or professional experience is preferred.
  • Basic American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred.
  • Experience working with disabled individuals is a plus.
  • Experience working with neurodivergent individuals is a plus.
  • Cultural Diversity experience is an asset.

3 Shifts

  • 10:00 AM to 01:00 PM
    Mondays and Wednesdays mornings/early afternoons for our group programs
  • 03:45 PM to 05:15 PM
    Mondays and Wednesdays afternoons/evenings
  • evening / 05:00 PM to 08:00 PM
    Mondays and Wednesdays afternoons/evenings

Feel the Beat was founded in 2016 to ensure that those who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, as well as those with or without disabilities can engage in music and dance education by providing an inclusive curriculum that honors and uses their mode of communication.

Description

Feel the Beat is a Colorado-based 501c(3) nonprofit and dance studio for all levels, ages, and abilities. We use a carefully crafted curriculum that engages students’ senses, strengthens muscle groups, improves coordination, and teaches the fundamentals of music, dance principles, and choreography while connecting to the music through our state-of-the-art patented vibrational floor.
