ORGANIZATION: NOTRE DAME MISSION VOLUNTEERS AMERICORPS

This position is a part of the Notre Dame - AmeriCorps program. NDA members strive to empower communities through education and personal hands-on support. They offer small group and one-on-one instruction to children and adults (literacy, GED, and ESL), organize after-school enrichment activities, model and teach conflict resolution, and involve community professionals in the learning process. Members commit to at least 900 hours of service over 6 months (Jan. to July).

The NDA member for this position would serve with Safe Alternative Foundation for Education (SAFE). SAFE acts on the belief that all students should have access to quality education and the resources and opportunities that will assist them in achieving their goals. SAFE provides after school, weekend, and summer learning educational opportunities through vocational programs that provide real-world application as well as exposing students to the world outside of their community. Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the delivery and development of existing wood-shop & employment certification programs.
  • Develop and administer workshop materials, lessons, and enrichment activities for daily lessons.
  • Keep weekly attendance records and notes regarding student participation.
  • Monitor student enrollment within the program.
  • Advertise for, screen, and recruit program participants..
  • Assist with organizing outreach events and job fairs to promote the services of the organization.
  • Participate & work with other staff to implement strategic plans.

Additional Requirements: NDA seeks to build community among our members, as well as the people with whom we serve. Members attend regular bi-weekly meetings as NDA team, which focus on reflection, training, service projects, and professional development.
