ORGANIZATION: NOTRE DAME MISSION VOLUNTEERS AMERICORPS

This position is a part of the Notre Dame - AmeriCorps program. NDA members strive to empower the economically disadvantaged through education and personal hands-on support. They offer small group and one-on-one instruction to children and adults (literacy, GED, and ESL), organize after-school enrichment activities, model and teach conflict resolution, and involve community professionals in the learning process.

Members commit to at least 1700 hours of service over 11 months (August to June).

The NDA member for this position would serve with the Clay Pots... A Place to Grow. We are in need of an Education/Outreach Coordinator to join our team & aid the community of adult students in West Baltimore.

I. General Description:

Working as part of the Clay Pots team, the Education/Outreach Coordinator will be responsible, primarily, for helping to create an enriching environment for adult learners with the objective of helping them achieve set goals of passing the GED exam and preparing to enter to workforce.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement educational programs for literacy education and adult language education.
  • Lead a tutoring program for small groups & individuals.
  • Create lesson plans and instructional materials for classroom and tutoring sessions.
  • Manage classroom activities and ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Collaborate with other educators and community partners to develop and improve programs.

Skills:

  • Strong instructional design skills with experience in developing curricula for diverse learners
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators, administrators, and community partners
  • Classroom management skills with the ability to create a safe and productive learning environment

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or Bachelor's degree
  • Experience with small group instruction and/or tutoring
