The LRS program assistant provides interpretive and educational assistance for the museum on the Saturdays that LRS is open. They are responsible for engaging with families and children during educational programs in relation to High Point’s general history, current exhibits in the Museum, historic arts and crafts, and activities in the Historical Park. The program assistant serves as an educational guide between the Museum and the visitor, and therefore, is an essential member of the Education Department.

Description

The High Point Museum, a division of the High Point Public Library, is a local history museum. The museum features public programs, permanent and changing exhibits detailing the history of greater High Point. Adjacent to the museum is a historical park consisting of the 1786 Haley House (oldest house in High Point on its original location), c. 1801 Hoggatt House, and a c. 1841 blacksmith shop. Costumed interpreters are available on Saturdays to guide visitors through the park and periodically offer demonstrations of eighteenth century crafts and skills.

  • Orientation or Training
  • We ask our program assistants to commit to at least 2-4 hours of service each month. Little Red Schoolhouse’s current operational hours are the last Saturdays of the month from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, though eventually it will be most Saturdays.
  • Program Assistants should be enthusiastic, energetic, and willing to work outside of their comfort zone. You should be prepared for constant interactions with visitors of varying ethnicities, backgrounds, and ages.
