Last year we had 500+ volunteers help us build, package, and stage learning materials used by our low-income parents while preparing their child for school. Currently we support 300 participants in our program and we are growing!

It is time to get some help. We are looking for a few of volunteer coordinators to:

  • engage our volunteers with our work by sharing the importance of their help and recognizing their efforts
  • create community through outreach, emails, and recognition
  • be a liaison to the community organizations that provide most of our volunteers to share our needs and coordinate the schedule
  • be a support person during the Saturday shifts to orient, supervise and welcome volunteers to our location
  • coordinate with Executive Director regarding the needs for each upcoming learning sessions
  • report inventory needs
  • suggest changes to processes to improve the volunteer experience and efficiency.
Can you be the one to bring warmth, organization, and make our nonprofit a great place to volunteer?

About Learning Home Volunteers

Location:

Mission Statement

Learning Home Volunteers' mission is to improve educational outcomes for low-income children by transforming their home into a center of learning and their parents into agents of change for their child's educational growth.

Description

20% of the nation's children live in poverty. This effects their educational outcomes. 70% of them enter school unprepared. 50% will read at below grade level throughout their schooling. 30% will eventually drop out of high school. In our community the situation is even worse: 80% enter school unprepared and 73% are reading below grade level at 3rd grade. After 3rd grade, all learning is book based making it difficult to keep up if you can't read well.

Our program works with parents to help them prepare their child for kindergarten. Through training they learn how to support their child's learning through the use of learning materials design, built, and packaged by our experts. We are changing outcomes for under-served communities in San Mateo County. Joins us. Change the future - one child at a time!
