ORGANIZATION: VETERANS YOGA PROJECT

Reporting to, and working closely with, the CEO, the Director of Finance will be responsible for the financial management of the organization. As a member of the senior management team, the Director of Finance will be involved in strategic planning, evaluation, and professional development initiatives, as well as budgeting for VYP’s operations and expansion.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Overseeing financial management of the organization.
  • Management of the financial resources, with emphasis on correct accounting

and cash controls.

  • Tracking KPIs and analyzing trends
  • Review and approve preparation and finalization of monthly and annual financial

reporting materials and metrics for VYP Board of Directors.

  • Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for administration,

existing programs, and proposed new initiatives.

  • Coordinate all audit and outside accountant activities.
  • Serve as a business partner to the CEO on the organization’s financial, budgeting,

and administrative processes with an eye to continuously developing and

improving systems.

  • Ensure or create documentation of financial management procedures.
  • Manage external vendors regarding bookkeeping and other financial matters.
  • Create financial reports for quarterly board meetings.

Requirements:

  • Proven work experience as a Director of Finance, preferably in a nonprofit

organization.

  • Have at least five to eight years of professional experience, including managing

the finance and administration of a similar sized or larger organization

(preference given to nonprofit experience).

  • Experience creating and driving the analytic framework for planning and

managing organizational change in a highly entrepreneurial organization.

  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis, risk management, and forecasting

methods.

  • Hands-on experience with accounting and financial management software .
  • Expertise in MS Excel.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Ability to explain financial terms in simple language.
  • Familiarity with the way nonprofit organizations are structured.
  • BSc or MSc in Finance, Accounting, or relevant field.
  • Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a virtual,

multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team.

  • Experience should include legal, audit, compliance, budget, and resource

development.

  • Proven effectiveness leading professionals in finance and accounting.
  • Flexible and a self-starter; able to multitask while also being highly

detail-oriented.

  • Genuine interest in VYP’s mission.

Veterans Yoga Project is a national 501(c)3 on a mission to support recovery and resilience among our veterans, military families and communities. VYP envisions a future where all those affected by trauma have access to a full range of mind-body practices and programs, and is committed to providing these tools and training in Safer, Predictable and Controlled environments (SPaCe).

Founded in 2011, Veterans Yoga Project is an IAYT member school, an NBCC Approved Continuing Education Provider and a certified Yoga Alliance School ( RYS-200 YACEP). Working in partnership with veterans, active-duty military personnel, student veterans' organizations , veterans treatment courts and other non-profit organizations, VYP-trained instructors and clinicians provide programs, resources, connections and teach over 100 free yoga classes each week.
