Position Overview

The REP Classroom Tutor will work under the direct supervision of an Adult Basic Education REP instructor. During class time may work one-to-one or in small groups with students on basic language skills, including word definitions, grammar, pronunciation, intonation, English descriptions of real-life scenarios, idioms and formation of complete sentences.

Most REP learners are recently placed in Tucson. The goal of REP classes is to help adults reach a level of fluency that allows for employability. English level varies widely from pre-literacy to intermediate level.

Responsibilities

  • Help facilitate classroom activities
  • Circulate and observe and check for comprehension in students
  • Answer questions as needed and appropriate
  • Assist students with classroom work
  • Guide and orient students to develop their own critical thinking skills, and arrive at the answer on their own

Qualifications

  • 18 or older
  • Excellent communication skills and advanced English language skills
  • Willing to work with diverse students of mixed abilities, learner levels, backgrounds and cultures
  • High degree of initiative and creativity

  • evening / 05:30 PM to 08:30 PM
