Caris volunteers play an integral role in the care of our patients and their families. Our volunteers bring a compassionate and comforting energy to patients during what might be their most trying and uncharted phase of life. Caris values the dedication of our volunteers to ensuring our patients maintain the highest quality of life throughout their dying process. Although our volunteers do not engage in any clinical care, they provide an abundance of emotional, mental, and spiritual support to patients and families. Caris volunteers have the freedom to choose their own path and coordinate with other team members to utilize their unique skills in every way possible. Volunteers often provide short-term respite for families without adequate support who need to run errands or attend appointments. Volunteers might assist patients with simple daily tasks around the house, or provide joy and light in a person's life by simply being present with them. Caris Healthcare also works closely with many local nursing and assisted living facilities. We strive to ease some of the strain placed on facilities by not only assisting in patient care, but by also assisting with fostering an exuberant and creative environment where residents can thrive. Caris volunteers often participate in and lead activities within these facilities. Volunteers are involved in anything from bingo to holiday and birthday parties, and more! If you're interested in giving back to one of society's most vulnerable yet liveliest populations, please reach out! Hospice care is not possible without the generosity of others within our communities. After all, volunteers are the founders of hospice care!

All volunteers will need to be cleared through 4 standard FREE background checks conducted by Caris. Any volunteers engaging in patient contact and/or entering facilities will need to complete a FREE TB skin test before their start date. Caris will be responsible for scheduling and any cost related to the test. There is no drug test required, but Caris Healthcare reserves the right to request a screening with probable cause and/or upon injury. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older, have a valid driver's license, and be able to provide proof of car insurance. These requirements stem from the necessity of volunteers being able to travel to and from patient homes and facilities. Volunteers will NOT be transporting patients or family members.
