Veteran Volunteer Needed to Companion Veteran Hospice and Palliative Patients
ORGANIZATION: TRU Community Care
Please visit the new page to apply.
TRU Community Care is a We Honor Veterans Level 5 Partner with the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. This means we desire to provide Veterans on our service with Veteran-Specific Care.
A Veteran volunteer often has a unique way of connecting with a Veteran patient. Sometimes as patients approach end-of-life it is especially important that they are companioned by someone who, "gets it". This doesn't mean your companionship is always focused on the patient's military experience. But the shared experience of serving in the military lends itself to trust and connection that is such a gift to our patients.
When desired, we provide patients on our service with a military recognition ceremony. This is often just the patient and a few loved ones as well as our Veteran volunteer. We have a few pins and a star from a retired American flag that we give the patient in honor of their service.
Please consider volunteering with our Veteran patients. Your service is truly needed.
- No experience working with hospice and palliative patients is required, just a compassionate and teachable heart.
- A thorough and interesting training is provided.
- Once trained, volunteers will have access to opportunities and choose the patient assignment that works best for them.

Mission Statement
TRU Community Care (TRU) affirms life at every step of your journey with illness and loss. Our vision is to lead a healthcare transformation by engaging with our communities and offering innovative, meaningful care for those living with illness and loss.
Description
We were founded as Boulder Hospice in 1976 to provide expert medical, emotional, and spiritual care to terminally ill people and their families.
As Colorado's first hospice, we have long set the standard for care of those with advanced illness in our region. And we continue to lead the way today, with innovative programs that honor the choices, preserve the dignity and address the individual needs of the patients and families we are privileged to serve.
As a nonprofit, community effort, we provide our hospice care for everyone who needs us, regardless of ability to pay. With a focus on providing a continuum of care for members of our community living with advanced illness and loss, TRU’s programs include TRU Hospice, TRU PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), TRU Palliative Care, Landmark Memory Care, and TRU Grief Services.
