Pets for Life (PFL) is a program model started by the Humane Society of the United States to help address the lack of access to pet resources experienced by families living in underserved communities. You can support through door-to-door outreach to help us build a consistent community presence and build long-lasting relationships with pet parents in these communities.

These programs can be found in over 50 cities nationwide. Although independent from each other, all PFL programs utilize door-to-door outreach to build 1:1 relationships and a consistent community presence. This approach reaches community members who often have the least amount of access to information and services.

The Pets for Life program at Seattle Humane serves people and animals in Seattle’s 98108,  98106 and 98146 zip codes and provides free spay/neuter surgeries, vaccines, pet supplies and other pet care resources.

Location: Outreaching will take place in different areas in 98106, 98108, or 98146 zip codes.

Schedule: Flexible! Two hours once or twice a week, and you can pick your own schedule in the mornings, afternoons, or evenings.

Time Commitment: Volunteers are asked to stay for at least 3 months to ensure a consistent community presence.

This role is great for folks who...

  • Enjoy talking to people and engaging with strangers of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Have great conversation skills and can participate in respectful discussions with people who may have different opinions and life experiences.
  • Work well independently.

Mission Statement

Seattle Humane promotes the human-animal bond by saving and serving pets in need, regardless of age, ability, circumstance or geography.

Description

Founded in 1897, Seattle Humane proudly promotes the human-animal bond by saving and serving pets in need. We are one of the region’s leaders in animal adoption, education and welfare.

Seattle Humane is more than a shelter - we are a community resource center, providing adoption services, a pet food bank and support for pet owners, low-cost spay/neuter surgeries and wellness exams, humane education for all ages and more. Our work is made possible by the support of a generous community, and through our outreach, advocacy and services we strive to ensure that animal companionship is accessible to all.

We believe everyone deserves a chance to experience the love of a pet and the lifelong benefits of the human-animal bond. With this lens, we will continue to expand our programs and services to impact as many lives as possible.
