The Les Gove Rock Wall is located in Les Gove Park. It is a man-made climbing wall encompassing 8 routes. Auburn Parks, Arts & Recreation is seeking volunteers to belay on the Rock Wall. Experience is appreciated but training is available.

All volunteers, regardless of experience must complete a training program or demonstrate competence with a belay test prior to volunteering on the rock wall per the coordinator’s discretion.

Training and belay tests will be available on an ongoing basis. Volunteers will serve on an on-call basis for public, open climbing sessions to help share the sport of rock climbing with the Auburn Community.

The Les Gove Rock Wall’s season runs May-September, in the case of amenable weather, the season may start early or run late.

Primary Duties

  • Inspect equipment prior to use for proper condition and safety
  • Assist with harnessing climbers
  • Inspect climbers harness and equipment prior to their climb
  • Belay climbers on the rock wall
  • Provide basic climbing instruction
  • Provide information and customer service as needed
  • Encourage and celebrate climbers as the engage with our climbing wall

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to pass a background check completed by the City of Auburn
  • Must provide valid belaying certification
