Academic Mentor with BPS Student

Multilingual Volunteer Academic Mentors needed for 24/25 School Year in Boston Public Schools!

Interested in working with a BPS student this year? Are you multilingual and have academic skills you'd like to share with students? Join the Boston Partners in Education community and become an academic mentor to a BPS student!

What do academic mentors do?

Typically, academic mentors work one-on-one or with a small group of 2-4 students for one hour per-week during the school day over the course of the school year. Select opportunities are also available to work with students online, after school, or on weekends. Student/volunteer matches are made based on your preferences of location, schedule, subject, and grade level.

With guidance from a classroom teacher, academic mentors provide students with additional academic and social-emotional support to help them thrive in the classroom and beyond. Opportunities are available in all grades (pre K-12) and all subject areas.

About Boston Partners in Education

Location:

192 South Street, Ste. 600, Boston, MA 02111, US

Mission Statement

Boston Partners in Education enhances the academic achievement and nurtures the growth of Boston's public school students by providing them with focused, individualized in-school volunteer support. With the commitment and involvement of the entire community, all students in Boston will develop the skills, self-confidence and motivation to recognize and achieve their full potential.

Description

Boston Partners in Education has been supporting teachers and students in Boston Public Schools for over 50 years. Our trained volunteers serve as academic mentors to help students gain the skills, self-confidence, and motivation they need to succeed in school and in life.

Our academic mentors are community members who volunteers in pre K-12 classrooms in the Boston Public Schools (BPS). Mentors offer support in any subject area, though we focus on ELA and math for grades K-8. They commit to spending the year with the same student, or small group of students, every week for an hour a week during the school day. Ideally, the match stays together over the course of a few years, thus forming a bond that goes beyond academics.
