Lansing Area AIDS Network is dedicated to meeting the needs of people with HIV and preventing the spread of the virus. We offer a food pantry to provide nutritional support to those in need.
As a Food Pantry Support Volunteer, (in partnership with Hunger Free America - AmeriCorps Senior 55+ Volunteer Program), you will support the Operations Manager, Operations Assistant and Care managers to run our food pantry program by assisting clients in accessing the pantry and/or filling out necessary paperwork.
This is an in-person role, averaging 6 hours per week. Open hours are Thursdays from 10am - 4pm. Volunteers may sign up for a partial shift. Parking is available and free. Office is accessible by 2 bus lines. Orientation and training provided. Office is confidential and HIV status is protected by law. Volunteers required to sign and abide by an agreement of confidentiality.
Tasks can include the following, and can be modified for accessibility:
-Greet clients as they arrive to access the pantry and check them in
-Guide clients through the pantry; help them bag groceries and personal care items.
-Keep track of item limits based on household size (training provided).
-Record client information on USDA sheets.
-Assist clients with carrying items to their vehicle, if necessary.
By joining our community of Senior Volunteers (55+) you gain access to our group events, training, events, volunteer recognition, community, monetary reimbursement, and an extensive list of volunteer opportunities that are remote or in-person across the U.S.

Mission Statement
HUNGER FREE AMERICA is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grassroots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Description
HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.
Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
