Responsibilities

  • Help recruit, train, and supervise volunteers in the efficient running of the facility and assist with calling volunteers to request assistance as needed.
  • Maintain volunteer hours and coordinate volunteer schedules, prepare volunteer program reports, and liaison with the community to attract volunteers
  • Build positive relationships with volunteers
  • Provide opportunities for volunteers to give feedback, understand policies, and interact in professional and social settings
  • Coordinate with other departments in the development and implementation of new volunteer programs
  • Evaluate, implement, and keep current volunteer applications and screening process, volunteer handbook, and training materials on a regular basis
  • Suggest or implement updates to volunteer job descriptions and volunteer training manuals
  • Facilitate professional interaction between volunteers and staff
  • Schedule and conduct volunteer orientations
  • Schedule and confirm volunteers for special events and other activities as scheduled
  • Record cancellations and make necessary changes to ensure adequate coverage of volunteer help
  • Work in conjunction with the public and companies/organizations that are interested in community service projects
  • Keep a record of special project volunteer hours and write letters of completed service when requested
  • Manage the volunteer database to keep track of all volunteers, orientation dates, training dates, money collected, and all other information pertaining to individual volunteer job skills and work preference
  • Schedule volunteers for various positions in the rescue to ensure consistent and even coverage
  • Be able to visit the rescue no less than once a month to visualize layout, activity, noise level, and develop a deeper understanding of what actually goes on in a day and a week.

Mission Statement

Papayago Rescue House, Inc. will exist to support the well-being and maintenance of exotic birds, namely parrots, and their people families that require intervention and/or support services to thrive. Papayago Rescue House, Inc. will act in a not-for-profit manner to target parrots for rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing. To better serve the 3rd largest pet community in the world, we will work with bird owners to increase their knowledge, provide mentoring and training to coping with parrot ownership to lessen the need for parrot owners to give up their birds. The community will be better supported to maintain the birds in their care to reduce how often birds are re-homed or placed in community facilities not equipped to handle bird requirements and behavior.
