Papagayo (PRH) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3), Georgia Department of Agriculture inspected rescue, supporting the well-being of parrots through rescue, rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming. A majority of Americans own pets, primarily dogs and cats, but parrots make-up the third-largest pet community. However, hundreds of thousands of mass-marketed birds are now displaced each year because neither these birds nor their owners are properly prepared for success. A very sad fact is that 85% of parrots are resold, given away, or abandoned within 2 years of being purchased, and yet many parrots live 40 - 80 years. Parrot Rescues are as vital as dog and cat rescues but are often overlooked by charitable organizations and people looking for an alternative to buying. Papayago Rescue House, serving the greater Atlanta, GA area, is seeking 2 grant writers with non-profit grant writing experience to locate and complete grant applications as remote contributors. This is a volunteer position - no salary. Federal land grant application experience is desired but not necessary. Strong written and communication skills required. This position will work in collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy. Responsibilities include: Researching, identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new grants from government agencies, corporations, and philanthropic foundations to secure funding for the organization. Writing high-quality grant proposal narratives, completing applications, and providing supporting documentation. Submitting proposals and managing the process to ensure timely submission of all required materials. Developing and maintaining a proposal calendar. Following up on all proposals in a timely manner. Developing an annual grants strategy. Please send links to your work and/or resume.

Provide Legal Guidance One of the legal counsel’s most significant duties is providing advice and guidance to PRH. This can include general legal advice on best practices for compliance, input on business decisions and contract negotiations, and legal strategies for litigation and other legal activities. Represent PRH The legal counsel represents PRH at hearings and trials (should this be necessary). Prior to the proceeding, the legal counsel gathers relevant information, sometimes requesting documents from other involved parties to build the PRH's legal case. During trials, the legal counsel presents arguments to a judge or jury, while at a hearing the counsel may negotiate on PRH’s behalf. Conduct Legal Research Legal research is another key duty of legal counsel. They may consult previous case information to determine its relevance to PRH’s current concerns or may locate information on specific laws pertaining to PRH’s activities. Legal counsel may conduct research based on PRH’s specific questions in order to provide accurate and timely advice. Draft Legal Correspondence Legal counsel drafts documents related to PRH’s activities, which can include statements, contracts, or agreements. In this aspect of the job, legal counsel ensures that the agreements are readable and enforceable and that they represent PRH’s best interests. They may also send letters on PRH’s behalf, such as sending a cease and desist letter to a party infringing on the PRH's copyright. Ensure Compliance Legal counsel also ensures that PRH complies with laws and guidelines related to their business or other activities. While this largely relates to providing legal guidance and advice, the legal counsel also needs to anticipate changing laws and codes that PRH may not be aware of and take action to ensure that the PRH does not violate these laws.
