We are looking for volunteers to support pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in maths or English. As a volunteer, you’ll:

  • Work with 1-3 pupils to improve their English and maths, either in-person or online
  • Commit to a 10-20 week programme, for just one hour a week
  • Support either primary or secondary school-aged pupils
  • Use our tutor workbooks to shape your weekly sessions

Good grades improve future prospects, opening the door to a wider range of opportunities. If you enjoy working with children and are passionate about social equality, you can make a tangible difference by volunteering for an hour a week.

About Action Tutoring

Location:

8-10 Fivefields, Grosvenor Gardens, London, England SW1W 0DH, GB

Mission Statement

Action Tutoring unlocks the potential of children and young people who are facing disadvantage. We are tackling the attainment gap head-on by forging partnerships with schools nationwide. Our trained volunteer tutors are empowered to enable pupils to make meaningful academic progress, opening doors to future opportunities.

Description

Education in this country isn’t fair. If you are from a poorer socio-economic background, you are less likely to achieve academically than your peers.

As an English or maths volunteer, you will choose one of our partner schools and work with 1-3 pupils for an hour a week, across the course of 10-20 weeks. Sessions are either delivered on the school premises or online, at the same time each week. You can choose to support children preparing for their SATs (ages 9-11) or GCSEs (ages 14-16). We provide all of our tutors with training, workbooks to use in sessions, a DBS check and travel expenses up to £5 per session.
