We are looking for volunteers to support pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in maths or English. As a volunteer, you’ll: Work with 1-3 pupils to improve their English and maths, either in-person or online Commit to a 10-20 week programme, for just one hour a week Support either primary or secondary school-aged pupils Use our tutor workbooks to shape your weekly sessions Good grades improve future prospects, opening the door to a wider range of opportunities. If you enjoy working with children and are passionate about social equality, you can make a tangible difference by volunteering for an hour a week. Action Tutoring is a charity that works to level the playing field by empowering pupils to make meaningful academic progress, and opening doors to future opportunities. We are looking for volunteers to support pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in maths or English. As a volunteer, you’ll: Work with 1-3 pupils to improve their English and maths, either in-person or online Commit to a 10-20 week programme for one hour at the same time each week Support either primary and/or secondary school-aged pupils Use our tutor workbooks to shape your weekly sessions If you enjoy working with young people and are passionate about educational equality, you can make a tangible difference by volunteering for just an hour a week! Please note we cannot currently accept volunteers who live outside the UK or are under 18. Our programmes run during term time, and you can sign up at any time throughout the year. Our volunteers say: " The Action Tutoring team has been fabulous in their support: timely updates, always available, closely following progress, and ready to intervene where needed, very professional indeed!" "Volunteering is very rewarding. I would say the skills that one develops from teaching the pupils are transferable to any walk of life and make you a better person. I would highly recommend it." What skills do I need? We look for volunteers who: Have or are studying for a degree in any subject Have at least a B grade at A-Levels (or equivalent) in the subject they wish to tutor, or a similar subject You need to be a fluent English speaker, and enthusiasm for the subject you’re tutoring is important. Experience working with young people is helpful but not essential. We understand that not everyone interested in volunteering with us will have completed A-Levels or attended university. If your qualifications do not match these requirements, we still encourage you to apply! We would love to hear about any other relevant qualifications, training or work experience. What skills can I gain? Through tutoring with us, our volunteers are able to develop a wealth of transferable skills, including: Facilitation Initiative Working with children Communication Planning Emotional intelligence Resilience Action Tutoring volunteers come from a range of different backgrounds and occupations and are aged from 18 to 80! As a volunteer, you can be part of a like-minded community and have a direct impact on the outcomes of the next generation.
