Best Friends Animal Society
Together, we can Save Them All

Best Friends is on a mission to end the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters by 2025. To achieve this mission, we are focusing heavily on Riverside County, where there is both extreme need but also extreme opportunity!

Riverside County is home to a large homeless pet population. Riverside County Animal Services (RCAS) provides a huge service by taking in about 27,400 cats and dogs each year. Unfortunately, like many shelters, they struggle to find homes for many of these animals. In 2022, 17,831 (65%) of cats and dogs didn’t make it out of the shelter alive.

Best Friends Animal Society would like to help RCAS increase their save rate to 90%. We are not daunted by the numbers because we know that Riverside County leadership and residents are capable of so much more! We could really use your help in our lifesaving programming and advocacy efforts in Riverside County!

We are looking for volunteers to help us with any of the following volunteer roles:

Advocacy Field Canvasser : will be going door-to-door in residential neighborhoods to speak with residents about local lifesaving initiatives to garner public support and action. Duties include distributing fliers, collecting survey responses, collecting signatures, and persuading people to adapt their perspectives. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/AdvocacyFieldCanvasserVol

Advocacy Event Outreach : will "staff" Best Friends Animal Society tables at outreach events in order to distribute materials, speak to attendees about the Best Friends mission and no-kill priorities, and recruit supporters, donors, and volunteers to take action on local initiatives. Learn more here: https://bit.ly/AdvocacyEventOutreachVol

Advocacy Campaign District Captain : will act as the local campaign lead and gather other local advocates to act in district activities around Best Friends Animal Society priorities including engaging with government officials, district residents, and other county stakeholders. Captains will organize their networks, neighbors, and community members to take action on activities such as council testimony and meetings with decision makers.
