Please consider sharing your time for Weekday Respite Care. Give mom a break to attend an appointment or do laundry! 2 hours per week or once a month is needed.
Volunteer Position: Weekday Respite (Childcare)
Department: Victim Services
Program: Shelter Services
Director: Director of Shelter
Location: Downtown Site
Position Hours: Monday - Friday. Hours are open to the volunteers availability.

YWCA Mission: to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all
Primary Function: Provide respite support and safe, positive, and nurturing experiences to the children while modeling non-violence
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Enjoy time with children
- Demonstrated ability to work well with children of diverse backgrounds
- Work well under pressure
- Demonstrated good communications skills

Responsibilities:
- Supervise and engage children in age-appropriate activities and crafts, reading time, and gym time while the parent is attending support group meetings
- Act as a positive role model, particularly modeling and promoting non-violence and healthy interpersonal behaviors’
- Undivided attention to all children at all times
- Safeguard confidential information gained as a result of the volunteer position
Training Requirements:
- General understanding of issues related to racial and gender issues and injustice, equality, equity, and Women’s Rights. YWCA will provide training.
- Required Child Care training provided by YWCA.
- Volunteer Orientation/General understanding of YWCA Mission.
