Volunteer Position: Weekday Respite (Childcare)

Department: Victim Services

Program: Shelter Services

Director: Director of Shelter

Location: Downtown Site

Position Hours: Monday - Friday. Hours are open to the volunteers availability.

YWCA Mission: to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all

Primary Function: Provide respite support and safe, positive, and nurturing experiences to the children while modeling non-violence

Qualifications:

1. Must be 18 years of age.
2. Enjoy time with children
3. Demonstrated ability to work well with children of diverse backgrounds
4. Work well under pressure
5. Demonstrated good communications skills

Responsibilities:

1. Supervise and engage children in age-appropriate activities and crafts, reading time, and gym time while the parent is attending support group meetings
2. Act as a positive role model, particularly modeling and promoting non-violence and healthy interpersonal behaviors’
3. Undivided attention to all children at all times
4. Safeguard confidential information gained as a result of the volunteer position

Training Requirements:

• General understanding of issues related to racial and gender issues and injustice, equality, equity, and Women’s Rights. YWCA will provide training.
• Required Child Care training provided by YWCA.
• Volunteer Orientation/General understanding of YWCA Mission.
