Location: University Hospital, Newark, NJ
Are you passionate about helping others and creating a welcoming environment? Join our team of Blue Coat Crew at University Hospital and make a difference by guiding and supporting patients, visitors, and staff throughout the hospital.
Role: Blue Coat Crew Volunteer
Commitment: Flexible shifts, with a minimum of 6 hours per week
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome and greet patients and visitors as they enter the hospital
- Assist with wayfinding, providing clear directions to hospital departments and services
- Escort patients and visitors to their destinations, ensuring they feel comfortable and supported
- Answer general questions and provide information about hospital services and amenities
- Help with patient and family comfort, offering assistance when needed
- Collaborate with staff to ensure a smooth and positive experience for all hospital visitors
Qualifications:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Friendly, patient, and customer-service oriented
- Ability to stand or walk for extended periods
- Willingness to work in a fast-paced hospital environment

Description
Volunteers visit newly admitted in-patients to the hospital and assist in creating a positive patient care enviroment.
Customer Service is our top priority at University Hospital at this time. The Friendly Visitor Program is a program where volunteers are recruited to offer our patients a friendly visit. Assist with any concerns or questions a newly admitted patient might have. Volunteers will confirm with the Nurse Manager on your assigned unit as to which patient(s) can have a visit. You will become familiar with various departments within the hospital, Perform errands for assigned patients within the hospital, direct all complaints to the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse or proper department.
