M.I. Lewis is seeking compassionate individuals to become Senior Delivery Volunteers and brighten the lives of our seniors. This will involve picking up the products at our center starting at 8am, then delivering the essential goods (and smiles!) to 4-5 seniors. Deliveries are made the 4th Saturday of every month and the time commitment is roughly 2 hours per month. This is an excellent opportunity to serve as a family, a group, or by yourself - your kindness can make a world of difference to those who need it most!

Mission Statement

The mission of the M.I. Lewis Social Service Center is to render aid to individuals with emergency needs, to make referrals to other agencies for additional support, and to encourage its clients toward self-sufficiency.

Description

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. M.I. Lewis Social Service Center emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. We provide services to low-income families in crisis who reside in Galveston County through:

  • Emergency financial assistance for utility bills, rent, or medicine
  • Food assistance through our client-choice food pantry
  • Grocery deliveries for senior citizens once a month
  • School supply assistance at the beginning of the school year
  • Thanksgiving meal distribution
  • Monthly mobile food distribution
  • Our Self-Sufficiency Learning Center classes and events
We would not be able to make these programs work without our amazing group of volunteers. If you are interested in supporting individuals in need, let us know! We are excited to include you in our team.
