Mission Statement

The mission of the M.I. Lewis Social Service Center is to render aid to individuals with emergency needs, to make referrals to other agencies for additional support and to encourage its clients toward self-sufficiency.

Description

We serve low income families in crisis who reside in the Dickinson Independent School District (Dickinson, Bacliff, San Leon, parts of League City, Sante Fe and Texas City). We also refer clients to other agencies if they are out of our area. We provide financial help for unitlity bills, rent, gasoline or medicines. We provide fees for GED testing, childcare, driver's license, ID and birth certificate replacement fees. We provide food to families once a month and clothing vouchers to the Open Door Thrift Shop. We have a food for Seniors Delivery Program where the fourth Sat each month, groceries are delivered to Senior Citizens who have registered for the program. We have a School Supply program and purchased Back Packs and school supply items to give to disadvantaged students the week before school starts. We have a Thanksgiving Basket Program and presented over 200 boxes of food, including Turkeys in 2008. We have an Annual Summer Food Drive where food is collected at the Center and at various community locations. The third Sat of each month we have a Food Fair, free fresh produce is available ao anyone who comes.
