Mentor A Promise is a non-profit organization, and our mission is to provide socio-emotional learning, academic support, and mentorship to students in temporary housing and facing housing instability. We partner with family temporary housing sites across New York, educational institutions, and community organizations to create a strong support network for young people experiencing homelessness, helping them overcome challenges and forge their own path to success. Position Overview:

As an Music Therapy Mentor, you will play a key role in advancing our work. You will help us provide Music as a vehicle to self expression.

Key Responsibilities:

· Use music as a creative process resulting in exploration of our student’s feelings, reconciling emotional conflicts, fostering self-awareness and making memories

· Incorporate engaging and expressive activities to help our students with life changes, trauma, and other challenges

· Develop individualized music therapy (non-clinical) lesson plan for our students

· Evaluate the effectiveness of the lesson plan with our students

Position Requirements:

· Be outgoing, warm and have a genuine caring personality

· Able to create programs that get our students involved and excited

· Be dependable and able to supervise activities

· Have creative talent in music

Desired Qualifications:

· Have good listening and communication skills and always presents a positive spirit and professional attitude

· Ability to lead a class and other instructional learning sessions and speak in front of a group setting with ease, confidence and clarity

· Awareness of, and strategies for coping with stress, and or vicarious trauma
