ORGANIZATION: HERS Breast Cancer Foundation

HERS Breast Cancer Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has been in continuous operation since it was established in 1998. Its mission is to support all individuals healing from breast cancer by providing post-surgical products and services regardless of financial status. Mission fulfillment is achieved through its assistance programs which provide products such as breast forms (prostheses), specialty bras, compression garments, and wigs.

This work is supported via foundation grants, individual donors, and fundraising events. One of our annual events is our annual Walk/Run/Yoga Fundraiser that will be held at Quarry Lakes Regional Park in Fremont, California on September 28, 2024.

We are seeking volunteers to help us the day before and the day of our event in various capacities as listed below in shifts. Volunteers will be given a barbecue lunch that will have vegetarian option.

List of some of the duties include:

  • Welcoming Participants
  • Registration
  • Setting Up Expo Pop-Ups (Tents/Canopies)
  • Setting Up (Tables, Chairs)
  • Breaking Down (Tables, Chairs, Pop-Up Tents)
  • Assisting in Barbecue area/Food Prep
  • Parking Volunteer and directing participants
  • Handing out medals at finisher line
  • Jackrabbits (riding course and looking out for participants who need assistance)
  • Course volunteers (being at certain points of the course with water)
  • Course Cheerleaders
  • Breakdown of course
  • Gate Monitors
  • General Clean Up
  • Floaters
  • Water Station (First Aid)

    Assist with setup, food prep, Breakfast booth
  • Sat Sep 28, 2024 - 09:00 AM to 01:00 PM PST - Spots available: 2
    Help with various tasks; water station on course, cheerleaders, first aid, t-shirt distribution, registration, handling medals at finish line
  • Sat Sep 28, 2024 - 01:00 PM to 04:00 PM PST - FULL
    Loading rental truck and unloading at storage unit.

We are first and foremost a service for women and women’s health. Our programs enunciate and further fulfill the mission of the foundation to serve all women, including the underserved, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Our programs are a service designed to help patients overcome the devastating emotional and physical effects of breast cancer treatment. We provide a safe, compassionate environment for breast cancer survivors to be properly fitted for bras, prostheses, lymphedema garments, and wigs. The service and the products of HERS Breast Cancer Foundation are vital to breast cancer patients’ physical and emotional healing.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 16
  • Shift are in 3 hour commitments
  • Volunteers must stay for their entire shift. Students will receive service hours for volunteer hours. Students must be accompanied by an adult/parent. All Volunteers will be required to sign a waiver prior to event.
