HERS Breast Cancer Foundation is seeking one to two volunteers to provide wig consultation and fitting services for breast cancer patients at its Fremont location. Our wig program -- "Hair With Care" -- is a unique opportunity to provide support to breast cancer patients who have lost their hair or are anticipating hair loss due to planned treatment. The ideal volunteer will possess a current cosmetology license, have experience with wig fittings, and (most important) have demonstrate compassion, patience, and calm as it is common for patients to feel physically unwell and/or distressed about their hair loss. The workspace for this volunteer opportunity is lovely! It was designed and decorated in a way that enhances privacy and mirrors a salon experience. We have a large selection of wigs and partial wigs in stock. Brands carried by HERS include Jon Reneau, Dream USA, and Henry Margu. Tasks include assisting patients in the process of choosing a wig which involves discussing their style, helping them try on various wigs, providing wig care instruction, and updating the patient's record in our CRM (customer relation management) platform. We will train volunteers to use our CRM. Note that scheduling patient visits and selling merchandise will be handled by our medical receptionist. Whether or not an in-stock wig is purchased or a patient chooses to order one, the volunteer may be asked to provide light trimming to the wig to tailor it to the patient's desired look. HERS is open Monday through Friday; we are flexible with volunteer scheduling and are open to discussing shifts between the hours of 9 am - 1 pm or 2 pm - 5 pm. A commitment of at least two hours per volunteer day is preferred. The volunteer must undergo a background check and sign a patient confidentiality agreement. The ability to speak one or more languages is a plus! Many of our patients speak Spanish, Mandarin, Tagalog, and Hindi. If you feel ready to support breast cancer patients and possess the skills and abilities listed in this post, please call us! We are eager to speak with you and have you join our enthusiastic, warm, caring, and energetic volunteer team!
