VOLUNTEER OPEN HOUSE! SAT JAN 12, 2019, 9-Noon!

Let the Adventure begin! Be a part of our volunteer team, make friends, share your time, assist us in carrying out our goals and have some fun! We have 10 unique programs and more than 50 volunteer opportunities. We invite you to learn what you can do at the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County Headquarters Building (3 S 580 Naperville Road) on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 9am to Noon. This Open House will give you a chance to talk with volunteers and staff from each of the 10 volunteer programs.

Interested in caring for injured and orphaned wildlife? Willowbrook Wildlife Center might be your prefect fit!

Interested in Horses? Danada Equestrian Center offers year-long opportunities assisting staff with horse care.

Interested in farm life in the 1890's? Kline Creek Farm has many volunteer opportunities in agriculture, domestic arts, gardening, interpretation and more!

Interested in teaching kids about nature? Or assisting conservation efforts or monitoring frogs, insects, birds? Fullersburg Woods or Natural Resource Management might be right for you!

Like archery, fishing and kayaking? Volunteer Ranger program is looking for Program Assistants. You'll assist visitors who are participating in these programs.

Trail Patrol offers you the chance to patrol on foot or on bike providing assistance and information to preserve visitors.

SpecialServices needs volunteers who can be called upon for special events and projects throughout DuPage County on an as needed basis.

Mayslake Peabody Estate and St. James Farm are looking for volunteers to learn the history of these interesting historic sites and share these facts with the public. They are also looking for gardeners!

You can be a program assistant, volunteer interpreter, gardener, and more!

The Open House schedule is as follows:
9am-10am - visit with volunteer program representatives at their booths.
10am-11am - listen to a short overview of each volunteer program to learn what matches your interests. 11am-Noon - ask questions & visit with volunteer program representatives at their booths .

Mission Statement

The mission of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands, and associated plant communities on lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna, and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure, and recreation of it citizens. The purpose of the Volunteer Services Program is to engage volunteers who are willing to donate their time, talents, and resources to support the programs and staff in carrying out the mission, purpose, and guiding principles of the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and the volunteer programs.

Description

We offer 11 unique Volunteer Programs.

  • Danada Equestrian Center-Wheaton, assist staff with daily horse care
  • Fullersburg Woods-Oak Brook, help children & visitors discover nature
  • Kline Creek Farm-West Chicago, assist in running an 1890's farm & introducing visitors to this era
  • Mayslake-Oak Brook-assist in gardening, tours, office & special events
  • Natural Resources-Countywide, assist at workdays w/ seed collection, brush cutting, planting. Be a Monitor for populations.
  • Special Services-Countywide, assist with office projects & Special events, pick up trash as part of the Clean-up Crew
  • St James Farm -Warrenville, assist in the garden, as tour guides & special events
  • Trail Watch- Countywide,patrol trails on foot & bicycle, submit reports on trail issues & visitor assistance
  • Visitor Engagement-Countywide,assist the staff with educational programs in schools, programs & events
  • Volunteer Ranger-Countywide,assist with fishing, archery, kayaking, trail trimming, cleanup & special events
  • Willowbrook-Glen Ellyn, assist in care & rehabilitation of native injured & orphaned animals
