Companion Pets in Crisis is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing assistance and support to companion animals during times of crisis. We strive to ensure that every animal in need finds a safe and loving home. We are currently seeking a compassionate individual to join us as Animal Placement Coordinators, playing a vital role in our mission. Our organization works closely with first responders as we are the only boots on the ground organization first responders rely on to assist companion pets in crisis.

Volunteer Role and Responsibilities:

As an Animal Placement Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating the placement of companion animals into temporary foster homes or into one of our partnered rescues. Your primary duties will include:

  1. Assessing Animal Needs: Working closely with the organization's staff and other involved parties to gather information about animals in the crisis situation and their specific needs, including medical conditions, behavioral issues, and socialization requirements.
  2. Matching Animals and Rescues: Evaluating potential foster homes or rescues to determine compatibility based on the animal's needs.
  3. Arranging Foster or Rescues: Collaborating with foster or rescue to arrange for the safe transfer of animals, ensuring all necessary paperwork, such as surrender form signed if applied.
  4. Providing Support and Guidance: Offering guidance and support to the family surrendering the pet(s) or rescue taking the animals. Answering any questions they may have.
  5. Posting, monitoring and reply to any social media post regarding the pet.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Genuine passion for animal welfare and a commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with volunteers, and animal rescue organizations.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities to handle multiple placements simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy when coordinating logistics.
  • Knowledge of animal behavior, basic training techniques, and common health issues is a plus.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in potentially emotional or challenging situations.
  • Reliable access to a computer and the internet for remote communication and coordination.
  • Knowledge of posting and relying on social media outlet (Facebook)

Time Commitment:

We understand that volunteers have varying schedules and availability. As an Animal Placement Coordinator, you will have the flexibility to contribute according to your time constraints. However, we do ask for a commitment of at least 5-10 hours when the situation arises to find an outlet for a surrendered pet, which includes responding to inquiries, coordinating placements, and conducting research. This will be done mostly over social media. Which will require monitoring the post and answering any questions..

Training and Support:

Companion Pets in Crisis will provide comprehensive training to equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in your role. Additionally, you will have ongoing support from our experienced staff and fellow volunteers, ensuring you feel confident and supported throughout your volunteering journey.

How to Apply:

If you are interested in becoming an Animal Placement Coordinator with Companion Pets in Crisis, please visit our website at www.companionpetsincrisis.org/volunteer and complete the volunteer application form. Once we receive your application, our volunteer coordinator will contact you to schedule an interview and provide further details.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to keep pets and their family together in times of crisis.

Description

Companion pets in Crisis (CPiC) is the only resources to our local Fire Departments and Red Cross to assist on-scene with 911 crisis calls involving pets.
CPiC fills an important gap between human care and pet care within our EMS division.
By providing emergency services on-scene, transportation and emergency temporary shelter for pets displaced from their human and or home due to fire, evacuation or death of owner not only eases the anxiety on the family but on the animals as well.

CPiC provides on-scene crisis intervention by giving emotional support, resources and immediate needs for pets such as pet food, bowls, leashes, collars, crate and kitty supplies.
Providing these services also reduces the surrender and unnecessary euthanasia rate of healthy companion pets.
Keeping beloved pets out of the kill shelter.
