During large disasters, Disaster Health Services volunteers use their professional skills as licensed healthcare providers to deliver hands-on care and education to disaster-affected clients.
For local disasters such as home fires and floods, our Disaster Health Services volunteers help individuals and families with their health-care related needs such as replacing life-saving medications and medial equipment lost in the disaster.

Description
The American Red Cross Central Appalachia Region includes all of West Virginia, plus counties in Ohio, Kentucky, Maryland and Virginia. We serve our communities every day by responding to local disasters, encouraging life-saving blood donations, preparing our communities for emergencies and providing care and comfort to an ill or injured service member or veteran or support to a military family member. 90% of our workforce are volunteers and it is through the time and care of ordinary people that we can do extraordinary things.
