The Montgomery County Food Council is a non-profit organization that serves as the primary connection point for businesses, non-profits, government agencies, and residents around food system issues in our county. We bring together over 2,000 local and regional partners in community-wide education, advocacy, and capacity-building initiatives. Our work builds a more resilient, sustainable, and equitable local food system by enhancing food access for over 100,000 at risk for hunger, expanding food education opportunities for all residents, supporting our county's farm and food and beverage businesses, and addressing the impact of local food production, distribution, consumption, and recycling on our natural resources.

As a Montgomery Council Food Council ( in partnership with Hunger Free America - AmeriCorps Senior 55+ Volunteer Program), SNAP Outreach Volunteer, you will support the Montgomery Food Council's SNAP team by attending outreach events, speaking with residents to educate them on SNAP, prescreening residents for potential SNAP eligibility, and connecting residents to food assistance resources. You will attend in-person events, and the remainder of the work is remote.

Volunteer skills; Spanish language proficiency preferred. Access to a phone and computer is required. Hours are flexible as to the number of hours per week (estimated 10 hours per week). Requested Length of service: 3-6 months.

By joining our community of Senior Volunteers (55+) you gain access to group events, training, volunteer recognition, community, monetary reimbursement, and an extensive list of volunteer opportunities that are remote or in-person across the U.S.

Mission Statement

HUNGER FREE AMERICA is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grassroots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.

Description

HUNGER FREE AMERICA (formerly known as the New York City Coalition Against Hunger) is a national nonprofit group building a nonpartisan, grass-roots membership movement to enact the policies and programs needed to end domestic hunger and ensure that all Americans have sufficient access to nutritious food.

Our long-term goal is not just to ameliorate the problem, but also to build the people’s movement necessary to enact the economic and public policies needed to end hunger entirely. Given that hunger drains our economy and tears at our moral and civic fabric, we know that eliminating it will boost the nation both economically and spiritually. Towards that end, we’ve adopted the motto: "Ending hunger lifts us all."
