Every year beginning in June (and/or when temperatures reach 102 degrees or greater in Tucson), The Salvation Army’s Operation Chill Out campaign kicks into high gear!
Each day during the hottest summer months, volunteers help load the Salvation Army van with cold water bottles, nonperishable snacks, and essential toiletry and heat relief items to distribute to the homeless who are staying at or living near Santa Rita Park. With the generous support of volunteers and members of the Tucson community, we are able to provide respite and food to more than 16,000 individuals - including children and families! Our continued ability to help those in need depends heavily on the generosity of volunteers - and we hope you'll consider riding along with us!
Please note: For scheduling continuity, interested volunteers must commit to helping at least one day per week for the three-month duration of this project. This program operates Monday through Friday only, on a specific schedule of 1:15 pm to 3:30 pm on any weekday where the temperatures are expected to reach 102 degrees or greater.
If you're interested in participating in Operation Chill Out, please contact Kristin Ohman, Volunteer/Seasonal Projects Coordinator at kristin.ohman@usw.salvationarmy.org or at: 520-448-3997.
