Located along the beautiful Cumberland Mountains, Cumberland Gap National Historical Park stretches across three states: Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia. With over 85 miles of hiking trails, historical sites, overlooks, camping, and guided tours, Cumberland Gap provides opportunities for visitors of all ages and abilities.

As an Adopt-a-Trail Volunteer, you will select your own small section of the park's extensive hiking trails to take care of. Once you have "adopted" your section of trail, you will be responsible for keeping it free of trash, well-groomed, and accessible to hikers, while preserving its natural character. This position requires training from the park's Maintenance Division on the basics of trail maintenance and upkeep, the proper use of tools such as loppers and hand saws, and any pertinent safety precautions.
