Are you looking for an innovative organization that will value and allow you to enhance your leadership capabilities? As a trusted advisor, this Chief of Staff position will function as a member of our Executive Committee and will act as a liaison between our incarcerated founder to oversee our organization's daily operations. This is a volunteer position with an option for competitive salary ($85,385-$108,000 per year) upon securing funding.


WHAT YOU WILL DO:


  • Responsible for directing support for all strategic, budgetary, financial activities, operational and administrative services, and human resource functions of the organization;

  • Broad discretional responsibility;

  • Sits as a member on all organizational committees;

  • Works collaboratively with Staff Directors and other department supervisors to assure operations are effectively coordinated and implemented; may manage and administer independent program(s) with organizational-wide impact;

  • Coordinates administrative operations and communications, managing the approval process for decision memos and correspondence and ensuring accountability for budgetary and operational management of the organization as a whole;

  • Reports to CEO/ED (or founder) who is responsible for a highly complex and broad organization that is focused on advancing and enhancing the organization's mission;

  • Serves as a key strategist to the CEO/ED (or funder) in initiating and developing new strategic direction, short and long-term plans and innovative initiatives and programs;

  • Exercises a high level of authority to make official commitments and broadly represent the organization's interests across departments;

  • Responds to a variety of issues; handles sensitive negotiations with little to no precedence, requiring expedient and diplomatic action; applies breathe and depth of organizational knowledge to develop sound short and long-term plans; builds relationships with key constituencies and stakeholders;

  • Identifies, develops and advises on policy and its implementation; and exercises sound judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results;

  • Performs other tasks as required by position.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:


  • Preferred Master's degree in Nonprofit Organizational Management or related discipline and three or more years of successful managerial or leadership experience;

  • Demonstrated experience in exercising the highest level of political acumen, sound judgment, stewardship, collaboration, and partnership development preferably as a Chief of Staff, deputy or senior advisor to a nonprofit CEO/ED;

  • Sound strategic-thinking, consulting, and networking skills in guiding the organization toward workable strategies and solutions;

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach, mentor, advise, and influence people at all levels, with respect, tact, diplomacy, confidentiality;

  • Demonstrated ability to be highly organized, meticulous and practice excellent follow-through, work effectively under pressure of deadlines, frequent interruption and shifting priorities to produce consistency (alone and with others) high quality work product;

  • Advanced knowledge of the protocols, reporting structures, policies, and organizational networks and culture development in the nonprofit sector; as well as an understanding of the interactive roles of administration;

  • Advanced skills in short and long-range planning, program and project management and development, facilitation and collaboration;

  • Advanced written, oral and presentation skills to effectively present complex information and influence outcomes.

Established in 2014, it is a student and volunteer ran organization that was founded by incarcerated activist and author Ivan Kilgore. Our Vision: We believe everyone has a right to education that empowers them with solutions to social and economic problems caused by poverty and racism.
