VIGIL VOLUNTEERS offer comfort and presence to patients who have no family to be with them during the time immediately prior to their death.
Vigil Volunteers offers a calm presence, comfort, talking, listening, or sharing silence. This position requires a understanding of Hospice philosophy, be familiar with the dying process i.e. when death is imminent.
Vigil Volunteers receive additional training and education on anticipatory grief, empathetic presence, reflective listening and the rights of the dying.
Vigil Volunteers must have strong communication skills, be comfortable around death and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
This position requires volunteers to be 18 years or older. Requires some flexibility with schedule and must be willing to be called on short-notice.
