Our hospice program needs veteran volunteers who are willing to share some of their time and talents to help patients and their families who are dealing with end-of-life issues. Trained hospice volunteers, who are also veterans, will have the unique opportunity to support other veterans who have a life-limiting illness. They will work directly with patients and families to provide such services as: Companionship Emotional support Socialization Respite for caregivers Participate in We Honor Veterans pinning ceremonies (we are a Level 4 Star) Educate our teams on military culture Our hospice program will provide education on the hospice philosophy and our care model. Our training will also help veterans understand their roles as hospice volunteers. We are committed to clinical excellence with compassion and dignity when life matters most. We are here.

VIGIL VOLUNTEERS offer comfort and presence to patients who have no family to be with them during the time immediately prior to their death. Vigil Volunteers offers a calm presence, comfort, talking, listening, or sharing silence. This position requires a understanding of Hospice philosophy, be familiar with the dying process i.e. when death is imminent. Vigil Volunteers receive additional training and education on anticipatory grief, empathetic presence, reflective listening and the rights of the dying. Vigil Volunteers must have strong communication skills, be comfortable around death and ability to maintain composure in stressful situations. This position requires volunteers to be 18 years or older. Requires some flexibility with schedule and must be willing to be called on short-notice.

Serve Veterans at the end of life. Veteran volunteers will be paired with a Veteran patient - you have the unique ability to relate and connect and create an environment where life review and healing may occur. Veteran volunteers are part of a distinct culture with their own common language and experience. The camaraderie created between Veterans has been proven supportive for all involved. A Veteran to Veteran volunteer will also assist with the honoring our Veterans with a pinning and certificate ceremony, and other recognition events, and the Final Salute. Our training will give you the confidence and ability to understand your role as a hospice volunteer. The Direct Care Volunteer is additional support to patients and families.
