Northern Kentucky Post Offices will be holding a food drive for Brighton Center's Food Pantry. We need multiple volunteers to assist on Saturday May 13th starting at 5pm to pick up food from the Post Offices and deliver to our Family Center in Newport. All volunteers will meet at our Family Center at 799 Ann Street Newport, KY.
Volunteer Positions:
Two volunteers will drive our small box truck back and forth from the Post Offices to our Family Center until all food has been delivered.
All other volunteers will stay at the Family Center and help to unload the truck and sort and stock items on to our Choice Food Pantry's shelves.
Across the Cincinnati region, more than 270,000 households experience food insecurity. According to a study conducted by researchers from the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, childhood food insecurity has been associated with negative health outcomes, including iron-deficiency anemia, overweight or obese status, increased likelihood of hospitalization or illness, increased risk of developmental delays, and lower physical and psychosocial functioning. In a recent Bankrate survey, 39% of American workers who received a pay raise in the past year said they were struggling to afford basics like groceries and other household goods because their pay hadn’t kept up with the pace of inflation. Our Food Pantry assisted 5,643 individuals to receive food, diapers, personal care items, and other basic necessities last year. This year we have already seen a decrease in donations to our Food Pantry but an increase in the number of individuals looking for services. Can't donate your time? Consider donating food!
