Direct placement interns will work part-time 2-3 days per week a total of 75 hours over for 6 weeks and Crew member interns will work 60 hours over 5 weeks and earn $17.34 per hour.
Presidio Native Plant Nursery Intern (3 positions)
Interns will help with all aspects of plant propagation. Interns will participate in the collection, processing and cleaning of all plant materials. They will propagate native plants by sowing seeds, processing cuttings and transplanting seedlings.
John Muir National Historic Site Natural Resource Intern (2 positions)
Interns will assist park biologists and other Natural Resource Interns in various activities including reptile and small mammal surveys, collecting data for the California Phenology Project, and invasive weed management.
Sustainability Intern, Golden Gate NRA, Fort Mason (1 position)
Intern will support the park’s Sustainability Coordinator with education and outreach to staff about the park’s sustainability and climate change initiatives. This could involve researching and preparing informational fact sheets, updating website and social media content, or working on short videos about the park’s sustainability programs.
Alcatraz Island Historic Gardens Intern (2 positions)
This internship will be an introduction to horticulture and how to care for a historic garden within a National Park. Interns will learn the basics of pruning, weeding, planting, irrigation, composting and propagation.
The Presidio of San Francisco Habitat Restoration Summer Youth Intern (2 positions)
Interns will participate in habitat restoration activities throughout the Presidio of San Francisco. This includes but is not limited to invasive plant removal, erosion control, native plant maintenance, and native plant propagation and planting.
Muir Woods National Monument High School Park Ranger Intern (2 positions)
The Muir Woods Park Ranger Intern will work with a broad range of audiences through offering a variety of interpretive experiences and services. The intern's primary responsibility will be to orient visitors to the site, to develop interpretive programs for visitors and assist with the day-to-day operations and special events.
Marin Headlands, Golden Gate National Recreation Area Interpretive Intern (2 positions)
To work alongside Interpretive Rangers and learn their jobs and duties. To assist with Park Ranger walks and tabletop displays. To learn to function as part of a team.
Fort Point National Historic Site and Presidio Visitor Center Interpretation Intern (2 positions)
Interns will be given insight into operations of an interpretive park ranger. Here they will focus on program development to create and give interpretive climate change programs. Interns may assist with operations and some time to have set aside to research and shadow ranger programs.
SF Landscape, Garden, Maintenance and Grounds Crew interns- (20 positions- 2 crews of 10)
Interns will work in a crew environment supporting grounds, maintenance, landscaping/gardening work, habitat restoration, trail maintenance. The work may include to out-planting vegetation, removing weeds and invasive vegetation, collecting native seed, transplanting seedlings, pruning vegetation, removing graffiti, collecting trash, unloading tools and materials, and performing basic construction work.
