Museum Village Logo

Museum Village, a museum and experiential learning resource of New York life in 1876, engages each visitor to connect with history. Our collection of historic buildings surrounds a beautiful village green with added spaces for exhibits and hands-on learning. Interpreters bring the Centennial to life, while our craftspeople invite everyone to be a maker. We invite our visitors to find inspiration, connection, and relevance in this often unexplored but deeply impactful period of our history. Come celebrate the Centennial of the United States, 1876.
Our village includes a weaving shop, printer, blacksmith shop, broom maker, candle maker shop, potter, and more. We are looking for craftspeople interested in demonstrating their trade to educate our visitors. We have a vast collection that includes many implements of various trades from 1840 -1930 and look to engage our audience both in the traditions but also in the maker spirit.

About Museum Village

Location:

1010 Rte 17M, Monroe, NY 10950, US

Mission Statement

Museum Village is a living history museum preserving a vast collection of eclectic, 19th century artifacts for educational purposes. Using these artifacts and reproductions, we provide hands-on experiences and exhibits illustrating the transition from a rural to an industrial culture and economy in America, provoking thought and discussion about history.

Description

Located on 30 acres 45 miles north of NYC, Museum Village presents 19th century history through a series of exhibits and demonstrations in a recreated village. The blacksmith shop, drug store, general store, school house, and candleshop present some of the trades of the era. The natural history building displays a mastodon skeleton, as well as a number of natyral and scientific artifacts. We also maintain a number of collections that are not on display.

We offer a series of events every year, as well as an extensive field trip program for schools and regular hours in the summer time for casual visitors.
